Our Ministries

Each of our ministries is geared toward meeting the tangible, relational, and spiritual needs of those we serve. Our goal is to help arm individuals with whatever they might need to live fruitful and fulfilling lives for themselves, their families, and their community.

The majority of our work takes place in Highland Park, as this is our community. We are firmly convinced that in order to help a community, one must become part of that community and work from within. We seek to work in partnership with the local community and church leadership to maximize our efforts in bringing transformation to our neighborhood.

  • Young ladies volunteering

JSS is a mentor/discipleship program for at-risk teen girls . Through the development of close mentoring relationships, our ultimate goal is to enable these girls to see their true value through Jesus Christ, and to develop healthy lifestyle habits and leadership skills. JSS is also designed to teach and encourage the girls to develop their God-given abilities and build self-esteem through scriptural truth.

We currently meet at All Souls Presbyterian Church (19 Overbrook Rd., Richmond VA  23222)

  • In partnership with the Youth Life Foundation of Richmond, we offer free after school academic tutoring and mentoring to a limited number of students from Overby Sheppard Elementary.

The Learning Center provides a safe and structured environment, with certified teachers and trained volunteer mentors instructing the children daily from 2:30 PM-6:00 PM.

We encourage the children's ability to complete their homework successfully and strengthen their academic skills in identified areas of weakness.

Daily Bible lessons are also used to teach the children good citizenship and to develop important moral values.

This is a GREAT place for volunteers to plug in!!

  • Thrift Store

The first floor of the NOC building houses a thrift store that provides quality clothing, home furnishings, and much more, at an affordable price for the surrounding community. All profits from the thrift store are invested back into the northside as they help to support the ministries of the NOC.

More importantly than our great bargains, the thrift store provides an avenue for us to connect to our community in a practical way. We are able to meet the physical, relational, and spiritual needs of those who walk through our doors. Our customers and neighbors know that our store volunteers will always welcome them with a smile, a listening ear, a loving hand, and a prayer lifted up to God on their behalf.

So, if you're looking for a great place and a worthy cause to donate your gently used, quality items, please keep us in mind! If you have large items you would like to donate, give us a call for information about pick-ups!

    Store hours: MON-FRI 10AM-2PM (3076 Meadowbridge Rd)

  • A NOC volunteer

Overcomers Outreach (OO) is a small group addiction recovery program.  It's a Christ centered 12 step program for individuals affected by any type of addiction. Overcomers mission is to bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to the hurting, and to meet human needs in His name. Through this group, members find the extra care and encouragement necessary to pursue healing, escape shame and isolation, and find freedom from the bondage of addictive behaviors.

OO meets every Thursday evening at the NOC building from 7-8PM.

  • Urban Rangers Group

Urban Rangers is our mentor/discipleship program for 3rd - High School grade boys. This program is modeled after the Boy Scouts, with an added focus on scripture, as well as an urban twist. Our invaluable partnership with Destiny City Fellowship church allows us to provide a structured and fun classroom setting for the boys, and Godly men as their leaders and mentors. We are excited to see this ministry grow as these boys learn the fun and value of outdoor living while strengthening their relationships with the Lord and their mentors. There are many places within this ministry to serve, and we guarantee you will not regret investing your time and energy in these young lives.

Urban Rangers currently meets on Monday nights, 6:00-7:30pm, at Destiny City Fellowship Church

  • food pantry

The Highland Park food pantry is open on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Our close relationship with Destiny City Fellowship Church and our next door neighbor, Boaz and Ruth, allows us to provide the pantry as a registered partner of FeedMore. Residents from Highland Park who have registered with us, and meet the federal poverty standards, are able to come get the food that they need for free from the pantry. As with our other ministries, the food pantry is run solely by volunteers and depends heavily on the food and financial contributions of our partners to sustain it. Consider volunteering on a Saturday, or donating non-perishable food items to keep this vital resource fully stocked.
